The McClennon Family
by Diane McClennon
Diane, Larry and their daughter Carmen moved to Cochrane in 1965 where they lived on sparsely populated Cochrane Crescent. The family began to attend All Saints.
Our memories of All Saints start in 1965 when Reverend Wright traveled from Canmore to conduct services.
All Saints was a small church in the small town with a small congregation in those days.
Our son Steven was born in March of 1966 and baptized in May at All Saints by Dean David Carter.
We moved to Calgary in late 1966, to Whitecourt in 1969, where our son Brian was born and baptized, and then back to Cochrane in 1970.
Carmen was confirmed in All Saints by Bishop Goodman in 1978, and Brian in 1982, again by Bishop Goodman. Canon Hill prepared Carmen, and Bishop Ford prepared Brian.
In 1982, Diane, Brian and Larry moved to Barbados for just over a year. In 1986, Diane and Larry moved to Edmonton for just under a year.
Steven passed away in November of 1984. His funeral was held at All Saints under the guidance of Bishop Ford.
Carmen was married to Joel Walker by Reverend Derek Dunwoody in 1996.
Diane and Larry have many fond memories over the years of pleasant picnics, many conducted with the guiding touch of Leigh Blackwell. There was participation in races, scrub baseball and horseshoes.
Diane served on the Altar Guild 1995-96. Diane recalls the ACW bazaars and the many pie-making sessions. She particularly recalls the time the family dog got into two of the six pies she had just made.
Diane also has fond memories of the many starburst making sessions in which computer cards became Christmas decorations. We treasure the Man of Vision photo given to us on our departure to Barbados in 1982. Larry has fond memories of many vestry meetings, including the finding of the missing red hymn books in the church attic.
All Saints has truly been a large part of our lives over the last forty years.
