The Greenfields

by Grete and Ben Greenfield

We moved from Edmonton to Redwood Meadows in 1981. My parents came for Christmas that year, and knew Bishop Ford who was then at All Saints. We all went to the Christmas Eve service, and Ben and I have been members ever since.

We saw many changes over the years, the first being the addition to the back of the church. Ben was part of the 'Pew Crew' who spent a winter building pews for that area. Later, Ford Hall and the adjoining entrance was built — a great bonus for meetings, coffee hours and rental. The big stone outside was dedicated, and the communion rail moved. Always there was the hope we would find ways and means for acquisition of a larger church as Cochrane was growing. Ben was a member of every committee formed to accomplish this goal. It final resulted in the purchase of St. Mary's Catholic Church when they outgrew it in 2003.

We both served on the Vestry through these years, and were on the selection committees for new incumbents. We saw the comings and goings of several over the years.

Grete has been a member of A.C.W. since 1982, participating in Soup Kitchens, potlucks, Apple Pie making, and other fund raising events. It was a wonderful way to meet some great people. She began playing the organ about eight years ago so we could sing at the 9 o'clock service. The most memorable moment was the morning Derek's hymnbook slid across the keyboard and put the hymn in a rumba beat - quite a surprise for the congregation.

We have made so many wonderful friends over the years. The fellowship at All Saints is very special to both of us.
